We also use interventions during everyday activities. We try to simplify everyday tasks, such as laying out clothes in the order in which they're put on. In this way, we provide assistance while still encouraging the resident to maintain as much independence as possible. We help residents meet social needs through activities that foster positive behaviors. Something as simple as pointing wandering residents in the right direction -- toward the bathroom or the common area -- can gently help them find what they're looking for. And by providing an environment that does not overstimulate with noise and confusion or understimulate by failing to provide a means of self-expression, we help to enhance the quality of life and functioning of everyone.
