When we talk about cognitive function, we're talking -- in general -- about our ability to think, figure things out, and communicate. Cognitive function is controlled by our brain and involves our ability to remember, think abstractly, reason, solve problems, exercise good judgment, and use language. Although we can't always help our residents maintain cognitive function, we do a lot to help them make the most of the function they have. That is one of the most important things we can do to assure the best quality of life possible for each resident.
