Cholinesterase Inhibitors
Mechanism of Action
All of the commercially available CHE-I share a common mechanism of action - by binding to acetylcholinesterase, the enzyme responsible for degrading acetylcholine, the amount of acetylcholine and its residence time in the synapse are prolonged, thus prolonging its ability to interact with presynaptic and postsynaptic muscarinic and nicotinic receptors.
