Upon completion of this program, the participant should be able to:

1. Describe the epidemiology and pathophysiology of peptic ulcer disease (PUD) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

2. Discuss differences in clinical presentation and management of PUD in elderly patients compared with younger adults.

3. Describe invasive and non-invasive diagnostic methods for H. pylori, and explain how to determine which patients should be included in this process.

4. Select and justify the most effective drug regimen and duration for eradication of H. pylori in a given patient, with reference to national guidelines.

5. Compare the clinical presentation and management of mild versus severe GERD.

6. Identify the most effective acute and maintenance pharmacologic regimen for GERD in patients with different disease severities.

7. Outline adverse effects, dosage adjustments, and monitoring parameters of medications used in the management of PUD and GERD
