The authors of these trials continued 763 of these patients in an open label trial, receiving 5-10 mg donepezil QD for up to 144 weeks. All patients improved with clear benefit seen for over 1 year. The authors found the 10 mg dose to result in the most optimal effects. These patients declined at half the rate than what is expected in AD patients who are not receiving cholinesterase inhibitor therapy.
